What types of market research studies are displayed on FG Global?

On our website, independent companies are able to post information about a wide range of upcoming market research studies, which include: focus groups, surveys, research panels, taste tests, mystery shopping, and clinical trials. Below is a short description of each type of study.

Focus Group - A focus group is a small group discussion on a specific topic. These groups may occur in-person, online, or-over-the-phone. These discussions are often directed by an independent ‘moderator’ that attempts to direct the conversion and determine your opinions in a safe and comfortable environment. These moderators are hired to ensure that the discussion stays on topic and that the conversation occurs in a very laid back and comfortable environment. Focus groups may occur in-person, online, or over-the-phone. These focus groups may range from a one-on-one discussion with a moderator to a group based discussion with 6-8 additional participants. Focus Groups commonly last from one to two hours and pay $50, $100 or more.

Survey - A survey is a short online questionnaire that works to gather your input regarding a specific topic. Online surveys are often able to be completed online in the comfort of your own home. Often times, these studies will compensate participants with the opportunity to win various prizes or a few dollars in cash. Online surveys often take 10 to 20 minutes to complete online.

Research Panel - A research panel is an on-going form of research that commonly requests that participants complete 1-2 online surveys each month for a specified length of time, often 6 months to 1 year. In an online research panel, participants will often be invited to share their opinions on new products and/or test new products. For this, participants are often entered to win prizes, given the opportunity to keep new products, and/or provided with cash. Specifics for each research panel will vary depending upon the company hosting the study. However, from our experience, the incentives for participating in a research panel tends to be better than what the company describes initially.

Taste Test - A taste test is an in-person market research study where a small group of individuals are invited to taste a variety of new products. During a taste test, you will be invited to sample a number of variations in upcoming products. These commonly last 30 to 60 minutes and pay $30 to $75.

Clinical Trial - A clinical trial is in-person research study for individuals with a specific medical condition. Individuals who appear to qualify based upon their response to a pre-screener are invited to participate in the clinical trial and are often compensated from $500 to $1,000 for their time and participation. In addition, they typically receive FREE health screening from a physician throughout the clinical trial.
